Seoul Appeals Court Upholds Conviction of Former President’s Grandson

SEOUL — The Seoul High Court on Wednesday affirmed a suspended prison sentence for Chun Woo-won, the grandson of the late former President Chun Doo-hwan, following charges of illegal drug use. Chun, 28, received a 2 1/2 year prison sentence, suspended for four years, for violating the Narcotics Control Act. The court mandated three years of probation for Chun, alongside 120 hours of community service and 80 hours in a drug treatment program. Additionally, Chun is required to forfeit 2.66 million won (approximately US$1,970).

According to Yonhap News Agency, Chun was indicted for consuming four types of drugs, including ecstasy and ketamine, while in the United States from November 2022 to March 2023. This ruling upholds the original sentence and orders issued by a district court last December.
