Massive Vehicle Recall Announced by Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, and Tesla in South Korea

SEOUL — Over 456,000 vehicles will be recalled due to faulty components, a move announced by Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Corp, Volkswagen Group Korea, and Tesla Korea, according to a statement from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Wednesday. This recall affects 11 different models from these four carmakers, addressing various safety and technical issues.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai is set to recall 236,518 units of two Genesis models due to a design flaw in the engine starter motor, which poses a fire risk. Additionally, 18,397 units of Hyundai's Santa Fe SUV hybrid version will be recalled due to a software error in the electronic brake system. Kia will address issues in 157,188 units of its Sportage SUV related to the poor durability of its hydraulic electronic control unit. Volkswagen's recall affects 4,886 units of the ID.4 model because of a software error in the information and electronics control unit. Tesla's recall involves 2,819 units across four models due to an error in the seatbelt warning systems.
