Majority of Car Owners Eye Eco-Friendly Options for Next Purchase, Poll Reveals

SEOUL — A recent poll indicated that over 60% of car owners are considering eco-friendly vehicles for their next purchase.

According to Yonhap News Agency, which involved 1,500 adults, 39.7% of respondents showed a preference for hybrid cars, with gasoline vehicles following at 26.7%. Electric cars were considered by 24.1% of the participants, while only 5.9% favored diesel vehicles. The combined interest in hybrid and electric cars stood at 63.8%.

The poll also highlighted demographic preferences, with respondents in their 50s constituting the largest group considering hybrid cars at 37.3%, followed by those in their 40s at 31.3%. In contrast, only 8.6% of those in their 20s expressed an intent to purchase a hybrid. Among those inclined towards electric vehicles, 62.1% believed these cars would contribute to environmental protection. However, perceptions regarding safety and convenience were low, with only 15.9% viewing electric vehicles as safe and 17.4% finding them convenient for parking and charging.
