Border Residents and Civic Groups Demand End to Anti-Pyongyang Leaflets

PAJU — Civic groups and border residents have urgently requested a cessation of the distribution of anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets, following another overnight influx of trash-carrying balloons from North Korea. During a press conference at Imjingak in Paju, near the Demilitarized Zone, representatives from 24 civic groups and local residents voiced their concerns over the ongoing propaganda efforts by North Korean defectors.

According to Yonhap News Agency, these actions are heightening tensions and could potentially escalate to conflict between the two Koreas. The groups highlighted the adverse effects on the daily lives of Gyeonggi Province border residents, including sleep disorders and anxiety, calling on local authorities and police to enforce the Aviation Safety Act strictly.

North Korea's recent actions have exacerbated the situation, with over 250 trash-carrying balloons launched toward South Korea just last night. This marks the sixth such occurrence since late last month, totaling over 2,000 balloons. The civic groups are pressing for immediate governmental intervention to prevent any further provocations that could lead to increased hostilities.
